Becoming...

This photo is for an assignment from my history of photography class. We randomly chose a photographer out of a bag and the assignment was to make a photograph in the style of that photographer. The photographer I drew was Phillip Toledano.

This specific photograph is in the style of his series called "Marks". His statement about the project is that "our skin is like temporary photographic paper, recording on our bodies the daily decisions that we make."

Often I wonder why I love photography so much. There are many photographs (of mine and of others) that I cherish more than any material object in the world. These photographs are not necessarily of anything extraordinarily special, at least not to anyone other than myself. These photographs I will hold on to for the rest of my life. They are unwavering in how I saw the world and how I related to it at that particular time. I will make photographs for the rest of my life as they will remain, if nothing else, as my own personal memory keepers.
